UnitedHealthcare and Montefiore Health System (Montefiore) have reached an agreement which UnitedHealthcare says ensures its members who are enrolled in New York UnitedHealthcare Community Plan (Medicaid), Medicare Advantage, and Group Retiree plans have access to Montefiore’s providers and hospitals in New York since Feb. 1.

A statement from the organization read, “We have reached an agreement with Montefiore Health System that provides our members enrolled in Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Group Retiree plans access to Montefiore’s providers and hospitals in New York. Our top priority is ensuring our members have access to quality, affordable health care from a broad network of hospitals and physicians, and this agreement accomplishes that goal.”

UnitedHealthcare officials said members with employer-sponsored and individual commercial plans, the Essential Plan, as well as Dual Special Needs Plans (DSNP), will continue to remain “in-network.”

They went on to say that they were pleased to have reached an agreement with Montefiore which they said ensures the members it serves have access to quality, affordable care from a broad network of hospitals and physicians.

UnitedHealthcare officials said maintaining competitive agreements with the hospitals and providers in its network was essential to its ability to provide affordable health coverage for its members, and added that its priority is to ensure its members have access to the care they need through a robust network of providers.

They said letters are being mailed to impacted members informing them of the new relationship with Montefiore, and that its facilities, hospitals and physicians are now in-network for Medicare Advantage, Group Retiree, and Medicaid plans.

They said if a member would like assistance finding a provider or hospital in their local area, they can call the number on their health plan ID card or visit their plan’s website:

Meanwhile, Stephen Rosenthal, senior vice president for Population Health Management at Montefiore Health System, said of the latest agreement, “We’re pleased to reach this new agreement with UnitedHealthCare that ensures our patients enrolled in Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Group Retiree plans have in-network access to the high-quality care delivered by Montefiore’s providers and hospitals.”
