ATHENS, Ohio — Memorial Health System’s Athens Medical Campus Emergency Department will officially open at 7 a.m. May 30 with a special open house held the night before for the local community.

Located at 206 Columbus Road, Athens, the new facility will be open and available to provide medical services to the public, Memorial officials said.

The open house will be 5-7 p.m. May 29. Light refreshments provided by The Changed Plate will be available, and visitors will have the opportunity to tour the emergency department before its official opening.

Since October 2023, Athens County has been the center of much excitement for Memorial Health System as the construction of its newest facility began with the arrival of the first of 204 MODLOGIQ modules from New Holland, Pa.

Athens Medical Campus is the largest health care facility in North America built using smart off-site construction, and Memorial is excited to see how they can continue to grow health care in the Athens community.

While the facility has four floors, only the first (emergency department) will be operating as of May 30. This 13-room emergency department is fully equipped with technology and resources such as lab services, x-ray, CT scanning, and ultrasound — offering patients the opportunity to receive treatment for a wide range of emergency conditions including pain, stroke, broken bones, cuts, burns, and more.

Memorial is eager to further expand the already robust network of primary and specialty services it has established in the Athens community, officials said, which is why they will be gradually opening services on the other three floors as the year progresses.

“We are driven to build great health care that allows people to have local access to the services that we do very well,” said Memorial Health System President and CEO Scott Cantley. “We can’t wait for patients to experience the new facility and the care we provide, enabling them to stay closer to home.”

In the coming months, Memorial’s primary care providers that are already within the Athens area will be joined by providers specializing in cardiology, endocrinology, ENT (ear, nose, and throat), general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, podiatry, pulmonology and rheumatology.
